This recall is for all KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens, Model 53411. The model number 53411 is on a sticker on the back of the product. If you need help determining whether you play kitchen is included in this recall, please contact us for further assistance.
The recalled play kitchens were originally imported by KidKraft, Inc. from 2018 to 2023. KidKraft, Inc. distributed and sold the products until May 2024. KidKraft, Inc. has filed for bankruptcy and is not able to conduct a recall. Backyard Kids purchased the remaining 2,900 units from KidKraft, Inc. in June 2024, and continued distribution of the products under the KidKraft brand. Backyard Kids sold approximately 400 units to retailers/consumers. Since KidKraft, Inc. is not able to conduct a recall, Backyard Kids has voluntarily agreed to provide a free replacement hooks to all US consumers with affected units as part of this recall. Backyard Kids also will provide free replacement hooks to Canadian consumers who purchased play kitchens that Backyard Kids sold to retailers/consumers.
Reason for Recall
These products pose a strangulation and asphyxia hazard and a risk of serious injury or death to young children who are climbing on the counter or crawling through the opening at the back of the play kitchens. Children’s clothing can get caught on the hooks used to hold toy kitchen accessories, such as play pots and pans. Additional details can be found in this press release.
What do I do if I own a KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen, Model 53411?
You should immediately stop using the play kitchen and visit our website, or contact the toll-free number, for instructions on how to remove the units’ existing hooks (used to hold toy kitchen accessories, such as play pots and pans) and to obtain replacement hooks free of charge.
What is the remedy?
The remedy is replacement hooks. Consumers should remove the existing hooks (used to hold toy kitchen accessories, such as play pots and pans), dispose of them, and replace them with the replacement hooks that Backyard Kids will send free of charge.
To be eligible to participate in the recall, customers will submit a claim through our website, including uploading a picture of the kitchen playset with the existing hooks removed.
Have there been any incidents or injuries reported by consumers?
Backyard Kids has recently learned that in February 2023 in Oregon, a 23-month-old child was asphyxiated after his shirt got caught on one of the hooks while climbing and crawling through the opening at the back of the play kitchen where the toy kitchen accessories are held. The child was unable to rescue himself and died from strangulation and asphyxia. Neither KidKraft, Inc. nor Backyard Kids have received any other reports of the hooks catching a child’s garment and injuring a child.
