At first glance, this slanted roof wooden building resembles a tool shed. Complete with its own roll-up "garage" door and ample windows, it has the grownup aesthetics little builders will love, but with definitely kid-approved features inside and out. There's so much to keep both their hands and their minds busy. Inside, discover an elevated desk with a smooth top for drawing or crafting. Lift up the lid to reveal storage underneath. Three paint cups are built right into the desk for easy and stable access. A wooden moveable bench is included to really get up close to your project. Varying sized storage bins clip on to the wall to hold small pieces and art supplies. Just like a makerspace area, we've installed a peg board across the back wall to be a canvas to imagination. Insert the curved sections and the spinner into the wall to create your own ramp design Drop the ball and watch gravity and inertia happen. There's also a kid-friendly hammer, screwdriver and 10 plastic bolts included to practice tool skills. Outside, a storage bin can also be used as a bench for a place to rest when you're tired of all that work. Whew! My son wanted to continue putting it together so we are just dealing with the bent pieces. We got a good deal on it thankfully but worried about the quality long term. It does take a while to put together.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Jennifer from Not Worth the Price WAY smaller than it looks in pictures, made of extremely soft cedar (my husband said it feels like drilling into styrofoam), there are about a million pieces to assemble (which were missing some labels, so that was fun to figure out), and even with power tools, it takes minimum 4 hours with 2 adults. Some wooden pieces came splintered, cracked, or have knots right through the middle, which means they'll break with the slightest pressure. While this playhouse is SUPER cute and I really want to love it, $550 is just an insane amount to pay for something that probably won't last 2 years. I even bought a cover for it because I don't think it will withstand weather for even a season.

Is there a kit or a reasonable way to increase the height for taller children? Or do you sell similar sets for taller children?

The playhouse comes as shown only. Any modifications made to the original product, such as removing the swings, could damage the structural integrity of the unit leading to failure and possible injury. The playhouses are designed for children 3-10 yrs.-The KidKraft Customer Care Team #03001

How does the playhouse do in the rain? Would it be able to be used while raining without the inside getting wet? Do the tubs hanging in the windows fill with water? Would everything need to be emptied when it starts raining?

This playhouse has survived a year of Seattle weather, both rain and a very sunny summer. Some rain gets inside because there are open windows, and the ball bin on the back does take in water. I haven’t had issues with the tubs filling with water, but they’re easy to empty out when my kids put grass and leaves in them. Overall, since it’s not airtight, it does get wet inside depending on how hard it’s raining.

Does this have a poly coating or does it need to be stained/poly to protect from the elements?

At the factory we have coated the wood with a water repellent or stain. This coating decreases the amount of water absorption during rain or snow thus decreasing the tension in the wood. Sunlight will break down the coating, so we recommend applying a water repellent or stain on a yearly basis (see your local stain and paint supplier for a recommended product).-The KidKraft Customer Care Team #14010

Is this Product only recommended for outdoor use?

The playset is designed and safety tested for outdoor use only. The Cedar wood used in the production of the playhouses does have a very strong smell that you may find too much for indoors.-The KidKraft Customer Care Team #01001
